Top 10 Favorite Kitchen Tools
Updated: Nov 27, 2018
I thought it would be fun to share a short list of my favorite kitchen tools that, in one way or another, have stolen a piece of my heart. Essential to my culinary creativity, I find myself reaching for the following tools almost every day!
I must disclose, my well-loved tools are depicted, but I linked shiny, new versions for you! So, without much further ado, and in no particular order, here are my top ten favorite kitchen tools:
1. Citrus Squeezer
Citrus Squeezer - Great for fresh squeezed juice in salad dressings, sauces, and drinks; this gadget makes it easy to squeeze out every last drop! (This also happens to be Lucca's favorite kitchen tool!)
Microplane - Speaking of citrus, a microplane is the obvious choice to gather zest, but it also makes ease of grating garlic, ginger, parmesan, nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate... Yum!
3. Scoop Colander Strainer Slotted Spoon
Joseph Joseph Scoop Colander Strainer Slotted Spoon - A one-stop shop! The name covers its many talents, hence the reason it's one of my favorite tools. I reach for it often!
4. Ice Cream Scooper
Ice Cream Scooper - Aside from feeding my ice cream addiction, I use my scooper for so many things! It's the best tool to create melon balls and perfectly portion cookie dough, meatballs, truffles, cupcake and muffin batter - you name it!
5. Chef's Knife
J.A. Henckels 8" Chef's Knife - Arguably, the most important tool in the kitchen! I have had my knife for a decade, and it should last decades more with proper care and occasional sharpening.
6. Cast Iron Skillet
Lodge Cast Iron Skillet - If you have one pan in your kitchen, make sure it's cast iron. Cast iron ensures even heat distribution, is naturally non-stick, easy to clean, and can go from stovetop, to oven, to even campfire! This, too, should last you a lifetime.
7. Dutch Oven
Martha Stewart Dutch Oven - Made from beloved cast iron and often covered in enamel, this large pot comes with a tight fitting lid, which turns it into a mini oven when exposed to heat. Perfect for long, even, slow cooking - such as roasts, soups, stews, and casseroles.
8. Immersion Hand Blender
Cuisinart Immersion Hand Blender - Do not tell the others, but the Immersion Hand Blender might be my absolute favorite tool! I use it to make whipped cream, smoothies, salad dressings, soups, or sauces like pesto, tomato and enchilada. Of all the tools, I find myself getting the most creative with this one!
9. Milk Frother
Nespresso Milk Frother - This tool is used at the start of each day! It turns my ordinary black coffee into a cafe-worthy treat, which ultimately, fuels me every day. Although it touts one talent, I have used it to warm broth, heat my child's milk, reheat coffee, and even make whipped cream with the cold-frothing!
10. Sous Vide
Joule Sous Vide - Once confined to the pros, the Sous Vide is relatively new to the home cook! Proteins (frozen or thawed) and seasonings are sealed in an airtight container and placed into a temperature controlled water bath (or food-jacuzzi, as I call it), which cooks (and maintains) the meat at the desired level of doneness while preserving the juices. Simply finish by searing, grilling, or broiling the food to add a crispy, golden exterior layer. My favorite part is the meat is ready when I am (not the other way around), allowing me to focus on the sides!
I have so many other favorite kitchen gadgets, but it has been fun sharing my top ten! I hope you found inspiring new ways to utilize these tools or discovered the perfect gift for that foodie in your life!
